This year Swancon is the National Science Fiction Convention and I’m excited to be attending for the first time! Please come and say hello to me if you’re attending! I’m looking forward to meeting lots of writers and creatives from Western Australia.
Here are my movements for the weekend…
Panel Appearances
Friday 9pm – Worst Movies We Ever Saw at East Grand River. I’m going to talk about the worst of the worst… it will be fun. I’m sure there will be plenty of references to Ed Wood.
Saturday 11am – Technohorror at West Grand River. How do horror writers and film-makers deal with advances in tech such as cell phones – giving characters a light source and the ability to call for help (with a GPS reading and a photo of the monster)? Are we going to have to go back to setting stories in Transylvania (which now has faster internet than Australia), or can we use these devices into new horrors?
Book launch
I’m so excited to be launching Amanda Bridgeman’s new book The Time of the Stripes. I’ve just finished reading it and it’s a page turning science-fiction thriller in the vein of V.
Saturday 5:30pm – Book Launch: The Time of the Stripes
Awards
I’ll also be at the Aurealis and Ditmar Awards too. I’m shortlisted for best horror short story this year, and I’m also accepting on behalf of a number of authors if they win… it will be funny if they win all of the awards…
Fan Fund Auction
You can be guaranteed that I’ll almost always be at the Fan Fund Auction at any con – it’s my favourite part.
And that’s it from me! I’ll be flying home on Monday morning so please do say hello while I’m there.
